  • Fact Check: Flight of imagination! Video of Akasa Air announcement in Sanskrit is edited Viral video of Akasa Air flight attendant making safety announcements in Sanskrit is dubbed. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video of Akasa Air inflight announcement is dubbed. The airline also clarified that in-flight announcements are made in Hindi and English. A video making the rounds online allegedly shows a flight attendant delivering an in-flight safety briefing in Sanskrit in an Akasa Air flight. Sharing the video on Facebook, one person wrote, "Sanskrit is now a ‘language in use’! First flight announcement in Sanskrit! Naman - Akasa Air". Its archive can be seen here. India Today Fact Check found that the video was dubbed. Akasa Air also issued a clarification that the inflight announcements are made only in Hindi and English. OUR PROBE Reverse searching keyframes from the viral clip led us to an Instagram reel dated June 6 on an account named "sanskritsparrow". The post’s caption stated that this video was dubbed. No such announcement in Sanskrit was made by Akasa Air or any other airline. Samashti Gabbi, a 23-year-old Sanskrit scholar from Karnataka, runs this Instagram account. Gabbi through the account promotes the ancient language by vlogging, singing Bollywood songs, and podcasting in Sanskrit. Further, we found a tweet by the official account of Akasa Air dated June 13. Replying to one of the tweets claiming that it was an original announcement, Akasa Air wrote, "We would like to clarify that our inflight announcements are delivered in Hindi and English. The announcement in the video is not an official one and seems to be a dubbed video that has been shared". We also found several videos of Akasa Air inflight announcements shared by people on YouTube, in which the attendants can be heard speaking in English and Hindi only. Thus, it's clear that the video does not show in-flight briefings being delivered in Sanskrit. Please share it on our at 73 7000 7000 You can also send us an email at factcheck@intoday.com
