  • Fact Check: Edited clip removes Dalits, Tribals, others from Rahul Gandhi's 'wealth redistribution' speech The part where Gandhi mentioned Dalits, Tribals, OBCs, and poor people from the general category was edited out. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check The viral video is edited. The part where Gandhi mentions Dalits, Tribals, OBCs, and poor people from the general category has been omitted. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s controversial remarks about India’s wealth being distributed among “those who have more children”, a video of a Rahul Gandhi speech is being widely shared. In the viral clip, Gandhi says, “We will do an X-ray of the country and it will become clear — minorities will know what their share is in the country.” He then says they will carry out a financial and institutional survey to find out which group holds India’s wealth and after this “historic step”, they will begin the “revolutionary work” of giving people what they are due. Sharing this video, journalist Abhijit Majumder wrote on X, “Rahul Gandhi is not hiding his Hinduphobia and Marxist-Islamist ideas anymore. Just listen to this openly communal speech.” The viral clip was also shared on Facebook with similar claims. The archives of these posts can be seen here and here. India Today Fact Check found that the viral video was edited. The part where Rahul Gandhi mentions Dalits, Tribals, OBCs, and poor people from the general category has been edited out. Our Probe A reverse image search of screengrabs from the viral video led us to Gandhi’s full speech on his official YouTube channel on April 6. He delivered this speech in Hyderabad while launching the Congress manifesto. The comment from the viral clip can be heard at the 31.55-minute mark. Gandhi’s Hindi comments translate to, “We will do an X-ray of the country. Backward class, Dalits, Tribals, poors belonging to the general category, and minorities will know what their share is in the country.” This made it clear that the viral clip was edited to remove the mention of several groups. For almost a year now, Gandhi has referred to the caste census as an “X-ray of the nation” that will determine which section of society stands where in the country. In the April 6 speech, Gandhi reiterated his promise to carry out a financial and institutional survey in the country to give the weaker sections of the society what they rightfully deserve. It is thus clear that the viral video is edited. Along with minorities, Gandhi also named Dalits, Tribals and OBCs; which have been removed.
