  • Last Updated on January 9, 2023 by Neelam Singh Quick Take A well-liked YouTube video claims that turmeric can eliminate cancer cells. We checked the assertion. Our analysis shows that the claim is Mostly False. The Claim Three foods are mentioned in the YouTube video “Cancer dies when you eat these three foods?” as having the ability to treat cancer. One of the items on that list is turmeric. Fact Check What exactly is cancer? Every population, regardless of wealth or social standing, faces the serious health issue of cancer. The condition has received an uneven and inequitable global response. Cancer is a condition wherein a few of the body’s cells grow out of control and spread to other body regions. This is primarily a genetic disease, meaning that it is brought on by changes to the genes that regulate how our cells function, particularly how they grow and divide. Proto-oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, and DNA repair genes are the three main gene classes that cause cancerous changes. These are referred to as cancer’s “drivers.” Does turmeric possess the ability to kill cancerous cells? No, not right away. Cancer patients frequently use complementary medicine, with turmeric being one example. Turmeric has a long history in traditional Asian medicine because it contains curcumin. Clinical trials are currently being conducted on curcumin due to its anti-inflammatory properties. These trials suggest that the properties of curcumin might counteract the inflammatory response, which is a significant characteristic of cancer. Although the findings are promising, there isn’t any definite evidence that turmeric or curcumin can cure or prevent cancer in humans. Moreover, there are some restrictions on the use of curcumin. These include the right dosage, absorption, and medication safety of turmeric. Due to all of these drawbacks, it appears that more clinical trials are needed before turmeric can be used to treat cancer. Furthermore, oncologists believe that although turmeric appears promising, there is still much work to be done before it can be considered an effective cure for cancer. Does dietary intake play a role in cancer prevention? Yes, diet and body weight are two important modifiable risk factors in cancer prevention. Nutritional guidelines for cancer prevention were first released by the American Cancer Society (ACS) in 1991 and were updated in 2012. These recommendations, which are in line with other governmental and non-governmental cancer prevention recommendations, are based on a synthesis of the scientific evidence on nutrition and cancer prevention. According to the ACS, a healthy diet is one that is rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, low in red and processed meats, refined grains, sugar, and alcohol, and that gets its nutrients from food rather than supplements. The term ‘prudent diets’ refers to diets that are based on these dietary recommendations. Foods with a lot of fiber, as well as those rich in nutrients and phytochemicals, may help lower the risk of cancer. The risk of cancers of the lung, mouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, stomach, and colorectum is lowered by eating more fruits and vegetables. Vegetables, on the other hand, are lower in calories and more nutrient dense than fruits. Cruciferous foods like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, collard greens, and Brussels sprouts have been linked to a lower risk of colorectal, gastric, and lung cancers in women. THIP MEDIA TAKE: It makes sense that someone would want to try alternative medicine to combat or treat cancer. Please be aware that while turmeric is typically well tolerated, it is not yet recognized as a treatment for cancer. Additionally, more research must be done with a larger sample size. Thus, we draw the conclusion that the assertion is mostly false.
