PM Modi arrived in Paris on February 10, 2025, and attended a welcome dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace ahead of the AI Summit. Upon arrival at the dinner, French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed him with a warm hug. During the dinner, Modi also interacted with US Vice President JD Vance, who is in France for the AI Summit. This marked his first engagement with a senior member of the Trump administration ahead of his upcoming US visit. During the Summit, Modi underlined the need for open-source systems that enhance trust and transparency, and build data sets “free from biases”. He also offered to host the next summit in India.
Meanwhile, a video of the French President snubbing shaking hands with PM Modi while greeting other leaders seated is going viral on social media, with the claim that the President did not even greet Indian PM Modi sitting there. Some users shared the video with the caption “French President Emmanuel Macron appeared to snub Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a summit in Paris, ignoring his outstretched hand for a handshake.”
While some shared it with captions like “French president Emmanuel Macron didn't shake hands with PM Modi despite being attempted multiple times by him. This is a blatant disregard of PM at the world forum.”

Fact Check:
The claim is Misleading. When we searched for more videos of the event, we found that though the viral video clip is genuine and not edited, it does not show the complete picture. Both French President Macron and Indian Prime Minister Modi Co-chaired the AI summit that took place in Paris. So, both of them entered the venue together, and later while Macron started greeting the other leaders who were already at the venue, PM Modi was seen amidst them.

X handle of Desh Gujarat also shared the longer version of the video, showing both the leaders entering the venue together and talking to each other. The video is shared with the caption “Watch | PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron arrive for AI Action Summit at Grand Palais in Paris”
In fact, both the leaders shook hands and hugged each other multiple times after PM Modi reached Paris. PM Modi himself shared images of French President Macron greeting him with a handshake at the venue of the AI summit, another image shows them walking together into the building.
