  • Fact Check: This video is not from Ayodhya Ram Mandir, shows arrangements at Varanasi temple India Today found that the footage shows sanitation arrangements at the recently inaugurated Swarved Mahamandir in Varanasi. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video shows makeshift toilets at Varanasi's Swarved Temple, not the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. As Ayodhya prepares for the upcoming grand consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir, a video that’s circulating on social media purports to show the state of sanitation arrangements in the temple complex. In the viral video, hundreds of toilets- predominantly "Indian-style", and some "Western" commodes can be seen. A Facebook user while sharing the viral video wrote, "Oh my God, is it the Unity in Diversity mode of toilets? Toilet setup for the Ayodhya Ram temple inauguration day in Uttar Pradesh?" The archived version of the viral post can be seen here. Indian Air Force veteran Rajiv Tyagi shared the video and wrote: “Arrangements for visitors to Ayodhya - two rows of open Indian toilets, directly splashing their contents into an open deep trench latrine.” India Today found that the viral video does not show preparations for the Ayodhya Ram Temple inauguration but rather makeshift or under-constructed toilets at the recently-inaugurated Swarved Temple in Varanasi. OUR PROBE Reverse-searching keyframes from the viral clip led to several YouTube uploads featuring similar visuals. These videos claimed that the location of the video was Varanasi. Further searches took us to a YouTube video stating that it was from the Swarved Temple in Varanasi. Taking these cues, we performed keyword searches that led us to a YouTube blog about the Swarved Mahamandir Dham in Varanasi, where the vlogger detailed arrangements for visitors, including accommodation and sanitation. Another YouTube vlog on Swarved Mahamandir Dham in Varanasi also featured similar visuals. These vlogs were shot and uploaded before Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the meditation centre on December 18, 2023. While we couldn't ascertain if the viral video showed under-constructed or makeshift toilets, it is nonetheless clear that the video is not from the Ayodhya Ram Mandir but from the Swarved Temple in Varanasi.
