  • Fact Check: No, this photo DOESN'T show Eid clothes being left on a Palestinian child's grave India Today Fact Check found that the image is from April 2023 and was taken in Turkey. The grave is of an eight-year-old earthquake victim. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check The image is from April 2023 and was taken in Turkey. It shows a father had placed Eid clothes on the grave of his eight-year-old daughter, who was killed in an earthquake. Since October 7, 2023, more than 37,000 Palestinians have been slaughtered in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, and at least 86,000 others have been injured. Amid the ongoing carnage, a photo made the rounds on social media, showing a dress placed on a grave. A Facebook user wrote while sharing the photo: “A Palestinian father leaves Eid clothes on his daughter's grave (8 years old).” Its archive can be seen here. India Today Fact Check found that the image is from April 2023 and was taken in Turkey. The grave was of an earthquake victim. OUR PROBE A reverse image search of the picture led us to a news report by Al-Khaleej, a news oragisation based in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Dated April 22, 2023, this report featured the same photo and stated that a Turkish man purchased an Eid dress for his daughter, who died in the earthquake that occurred in Turkey and Syria in February 2023 and placed it on her grave. Similar reports were also published by Gulf Today and Akhbarelyom. We also found the viral image posted on Instagram by Turkish Journalist Nevzat Cicek in April 2023. He wrote that the photo from 2023 showed clothes left by a Turkish father on his daughter's grave on Eid. Several news reports have highlighted the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6, 2023. Two destructive earthquakes hit southeastern Turkey and northern Syria, resulting in the loss of numerous lives and extensive damage to residences and infrastructure in the area. Thus, it is evident that an old photo is being falsely linked to the ongoing Israeli onslaught in Gaza. Please share it on our at 73 7000 7000 You can also send us an email at factcheck@intoday.com
