Social media users have been sharing a video of tanks, claiming it shows tanks on the southern border. One user wrote, “Tank movements in Texas! There is speculation that the tanks might not be deployed to secure the border against illegal immigrants.” However, the video was not taken in Texas. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the video was taken in Chile. The video was shared on TikTok in November 2023. @andrws20♬ Thunderstruck – AC/DC Newsweek found a version of the video that states, “video of tanques leopard chile” or “video of leopard tanks Chile” in English. A sign in the video also reads “Calama” and “Est. O’Higgins.” Calama is a city in northern Chile, and Check Your Fact was able to find the location of the video in Chile. Misinformation around the Texas border situation is not new. Check Your Fact recently fact-checked claims that Texas barred Border Patrol from rescuing three migrants from drowning.
