  • Fact Check: Don't bite this laced-up biscuit! RaGa didn't offer dog treat to Congress worker India Today reached out to the person whom Rahul Gandhi offered the biscuit. He confirmed that he isn't a Congress worker and that the biscuit was meant for his dog. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check Gandhi gave the biscuit to the dog's owner, and not a party worker. The dog’s owner confirmed this to India Today. A video of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi petting a dog and trying to feed it during the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has sparked controversy. The video drew criticism from Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, who claimed that Gandhi offered one of his supporters a biscuit that was rejected by the dog. An X user while sharing the viral video wrote, “This is why nobody with self-respect can stay in Congress. today Himanta Sharma ji has been vindicated. Rahul first offers biscuit to dog. When dog refuses he gives the same biscuit to Congress karyakarta.” India Today, however, found that Gandhi gave the biscuit to the animal’s owner, who eventually fed it from his hand. OUR PROBE Rahul Gandhi addressed the controversy during a press conference, explaining that he noticed the dog's distress and decided to give the biscuit to its owner for feeding. Gandhi said, “I called the dog and the owner. The dog was nervous, shivering and when I tried to feed it, the dog got scared. So I gave biscuits to the dog's owner and the dog ate them from his hand.” Subsequently, we also came across videos featuring the dog owner who corroborated Gandhi's account and expressed his joy for the “lucky” encounter. He acknowledged Gandhi's warm gesture of offering a biscuit to the dog. India Today reached out to the dog owner, Dhanbad resident Jitendra Kumar. He stated that Gandhi approached him to pet his dog, and offered it a biscuit. Kumar explained: “My dog, Lucy, a female culture pomeranian, was scared and nervous atop the car and refused to eat it.” Despite the dog's reluctance, Kumar said that Gandhi ensured it was fed by giving him that biscuit. Kumar, while dismissing the allegations, also refused any association with Congress or any political party. Thus, it’s clear that the viral video doesn’t show Rahul Gandhi offering a Congress party worker a biscuit after trying to feed it to a dog.
