  • FACT CHECK: Did Elon Musk Tweet That He Plans To Buy Snapchat And Delete All Filters? A photo shared on Instagram purports Twitter Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk intends to buy Snapchat and delete all filters on the platform. View this post on Instagram Verdict: False The screenshot is digitally fabricated. There is no evidence Musk made such a statement. Fact Check: Musk recently criticized former President Donald Trump after the latter called for the suspension of the U.S. Constitution over unfounded claims of fraud during the 2020 presidential election, according to The Hill. The Twitter CEO responded that the “Constitution is grater than any president,” Fox Business reported. The Instagram photo allegedly shows a screenshot of a tweet from Musk stating that he intends to buy Snapchat and delete its filters. The alleged tweet was published on the morning of Nov. 26. “Next I’m buying Snapchat and deleting all the filters,” the alleged tweet reads. “Welcome back to reality, ladies.” This tweet is digitally fabricated. There are no credible news reports to suggest that Musk intends to buy Snapchat. The tweet does not appear on Musk’s verified Twitter account. Likewise, there is no record of the post on Politwhoops, a site that tracks deleted tweets. (RELATED: Did Elon Musk Call Twitter Users Upset By Trump’s Reinstatement ‘A Bunch Of Babies’?) The only mention of Snapchat on Musk’s Twitter is a tweet about Snapchat’s stock price dropping by 43%. This would be a super bad idea, since stocks can swing wildly from one day to the next, eg Snapchat dropping 43%. Tesla is ~40% below ATH! However, eliminating estate tax dodges like GRATs would be good, since probability of kids being effective stewards of capital is lower. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 27, 2022 This is not the first time a fake tweet from Musk has spread online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that Musk tweeted that he was going to buy TikTok and then delete it.
