Several cities in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are facing massive traffic jams due to the heavy footfall of pilgrims at Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh. Amid this, has Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh praised the UP government for the Maha Kumbh arrangements? A video clip featuring Dosanjh speaking about the UP administration in Punjabi is being shared with this claim.
The text within the video reads in Hindi, “CM Yogi’s arrangements win Diljit’s heart.” An X user, while sharing the viral clip, wrote, “What happened to Diljit? Now he's praising CM Yogi ji for Mahakumbh arrangements.”
India Today Fact Check found that the viral video has been edited to mislead that he was talking about Mahakumbh arrangements. While Diljit did praise the UP administration, it was about his concert in Lucknow in November 2024.
Our Investigation
Had Diljit made any statement about Mahakumbh, it would have been widely reported. However, we did not find any credible news reports about this.
In the viral clip, Diljit Dosanjh speaks about a tour in Lucknow and then praises the administration. This suggested that the video might not be about Mahakumbh.
A reverse image search led us to a Threads post containing a longer version of the viral clip. According to its caption, Diljit had thanked the UP and Ludhiana administrations for arrangements during his “Dil-Luminati” tour last year.
In the video posted on Threads, Diljit says, “The best arrangements were in UP and Ludhiana.” He then mentions being apprehensive before his Lucknow show and thanks the administration. He says, “The best arrangement was in UP, thank you UP’s government and Ludhiana’s.” The portion where Diljit thanked the Ludhiana administration along with the UP administration has been removed in the viral clip.
We found that this video was posted on Diljit’s official Instagram channel on February 9, 2025. In the approximately 35-minute video, Diljit was responding to comments from his fans. At around the 18-minute mark, he responded to a user’s comment requesting him to perform in Lucknow. In the complete video, Diljit talks to his team member, then faces the camera and talks about his Lucknow show. The viral clip is taken from this section of the video. The complete section can be seen below.
