New Delhi (Vishvas News). A post regarding Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak temple went viral on social media, had gone viral on social media regarding Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak temple claiming that the Waqf Board has claimed Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak temple.
Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the claim is fake. The District Waqf Officer of Mumbai says he has not received such an application. At the same time, the treasurer of the temple society has also called this claim fake.
What is the viral post?
On November 18, 2024, X user Jitendra Pratap Singh posted a picture (archive link) with the caption that the Waqf Board has also staked its claim on the Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai.
Similarly, on November 18, 2024, Facebook user Deepak Adhana (archive link) also made a similar claim.
MLA Nitesh Rane made the same claim in Marathi while sharing the alleged postcard of Sakal (archive link).
Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we conducted a Google search with relevant keywords. On November 18, 2024 Aditya Thackeray, son of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and President of Maharashtra Yuva Sena, called this post fake and said it is a conspiracy of opposition parties.
On November 18, 2024 a statement by Pawan Tripathi, treasurer of Shri Siddhivinayak Mandir Society, was published on the website of Mumbai Tarun Bharat. It was written that the temple is located in Dadar, Mumbai. Pawan Tripathi issued a video statement saying that a false report is going viral that the Waqf Board has claimed Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak Mandir. The temple is a place of faith not only in the country but across the world. No one will make such a claim on the temple.
TheMahaMTB’s X-handle has posted a video statement of Siddhivinayak Temple Society treasurer Pawan Tripathi. In the video, he states that no board can occupy Shri Siddhivinayak Temple.
After this, we searched its social media handles to find out about the postcard going viral in the name of Sakal. In a post from November 18, 2024, from the company’s Instagram handle, the postcard was declared fake. The post clarified that Sakal did not create any such content. Someone had misused their templates and logos to produce this misleading content.
For clarification, we contacted Mumbai’s District Waqf Officer Faiyaz Yunus Pathan, who confirmed that he had not received any such application and rumours keep flying during elections.
Maharashtra Assembly Elections result will be announced on November 23, 2024.
We scanned the profile of the X user who made the fake claim. Earlier also, posts spoiling communal harmony have gone viral from this handle, which were fact checked by Vishvas News.
Conclusion: The post about the Waqf Board’s claim on Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak temple is fake. The temple officials have called it fake, while the Mumbai Waqf officer has also denied any such application.
