After US President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement, a photo of her with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein started making the rounds on social media. The disgraced financier and sex offender died by suicide in a New York prison cell on August 10, 2019, while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges. Epstein’s expansive network of friends and business associates included celebrities and politicians like former Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, and the UK’s Prince Andrew. Those sharing the photo of Epstein and Harris claimed: “This is why the Epstein Island list of visitors is not on display - Kamala.” The archive of such a post can be seen here. India Today Fact Check found that this photo is edited. The original photo featured Kamala Harris with her husband Douglas Emhoff. Our Probe A reverse search of this photo led us to a similar picture, available on the website of Getty Images. In it, Kamala Harris can be seen posing with her husband Douglas Emhoff. The attires of Harris and Emhoff and the background in this photo completely match that of the photo going viral, making it clear that Epstein’s face was edited into it. A comparison of the two pictures can be seen below. According to the description of the photo on Getty Images, it was shot on September 17, 2015, when Douglas Emhoff and Kamala Harris attended The Broad Museum Black Tie Inaugural Dinner in Los Angeles, California. Further, the face of Jeffrey Epstein superimposed on the viral photo, seems to have been taken from his July 2006 arrest photo, shared by the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office in Florida. It is thus, clear that an edited photo of Kamala Harris and Jeffrey Epstein is being shared to malign Harris ahead of the US Presidential elections.
