  • Last Updated on December 25, 2022 by Neelam Singh Quick Take Social media posts claim that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed that Covid vaccines cause blood clots. We fact-checked and found the claim to be False. The Claim A Twitter user claims that FDA has confirmed Covid vaccines cause blood clots. An Instagram user has shared an image to claim the same. Fact Check Did FDA say Covid vaccines cause blood clots? No. FDA has not made an official statement to claim Covid vaccines cause blood clots. This claim seems to have originated from an article published in The Epoch Times. This article referred to a study titled ‘Surveillance of COVID-19 vaccine safety among elderly persons aged 65 years and older’ and published in ScienceDirect Journal on December 01, 2022. One of the researchers of this study belongs to FDA, so social media users are claiming the statement is confirmed by FDA. The study analyzed the medical billing codes for certain health conditions in vaccinated people aged 65 or above who are vaccinated with Covid vaccine. But the study did not consider underlying risk factors such as pre-existing multiple diseases in vaccinated people. The data in the study may underestimate or overestimate medical condition because of reimbursement priorities. Also, the authors have mentioned in the story that the conclusion cannot be generalized to people younger than 65 years and adults who are uninsured. THIP MEDIA has previously debunked CDC and Pfizer say Covid-19 vaccines cause blood clots in veins.
