  • A video of people throwing slippers at security personnel is being shared on social media platforms as recent visuals from the ongoing 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela. What did the viral post say?: An X (formerly Twitter) premium user shared the clip with a caption in Hindi that said, "In Kumbh, nationalists and Sanatani people threw slippers at army men! Had they been Muslims, this would have been the news on all government media channels today, but perhaps all this is allowed to people of this religion." What are the facts?: The video could be traced back to at least November 2024 and shows visuals from the trailer launch of film Pushpa 2: The Rule in Bihar's Patna. What led us to the truth?: Using the help of video verification tool called 'InVID', we divided the viral clip into several keyframes and conducted a reverse image search on them. This directed us to a longer version of the viral clip published on an Instagram handle named 'travelwithaashi2'. It was shared on 17 November 2024 with a caption suggesting that the visuals were recorded at the trailer launch of the film Pushpa 2: The Rule at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, Bihar. News reports: A report published by The Times of India said that a huge crowd had gathered for the trailer launch of the Allu Arjun-starrer film. It said that after several people tried to break the barricading at Patna's Gandhi Maidan, the police and security personnel resorted to a lathicharge to bring the situation under control. The report further mentioned that the situation at the place had become chaotic, where people even hurled slippers, bottles, and stones at each other. News agency ANI, too, shared visuals on their official X handle showing security personnel resorting to lathicharge to control the crowd. The video was published on 17 November 2024.
