The video that is going viral on social media is true, can anyone tell ? #chinacoup #chinesecoup #china #XiJingping pic.twitter.com/mPR1EGWB7j — Manas Mishra (@manasmishraTNO) September 25, 2022 AFWA's investigation has found that although the video is from China, it is some seven years old and shows a chemical explosion in the port city of Tianjin AFWA PROBE First, we searched with keywords for reports regarding recent blasts in Beijing but did not find any. Upon reverse-searching frames from the viral video, we came across a clip uploaded on a YouTube channel named "News 24/7 SERGE TV" in August 2015. A Russian text of the caption roughly translates to, "The Beginning of China Explosion Tianjin." Given that the video was shared in 2015, it became clear that it's not from recent times. Subsequent searches about the blast in Tianjin took us to a BBC report published on August 13, 2015. Per this report, a series of explosions in the port area on August 12 left some hundreds injured and forced panic-stricken residents to flee the area. A comparison between a screenshot of the viral video, and an image from the BBC article makes it even clear that both are the same. WHAT CAUSED THE EXPLOSIONS? The Guardian cited an investigation report mentioning that a company named Ruihai International Logistics kept hazardous materials and 700 tonnes of highly toxic sodium cyanide in its warehouses, more than what it was permitted. On November 2016, the chairman of Ruihai Logistics Yu Xuewei was fined $100,000 and was sent to jail with 49 others for their role in the firm's illegal operations. Thus, we can conclude that a video of the Tianjin city explosion from 2015 was falsely shared as a recent blast in China amid rumours of a coup in Beijing.
