Quick Take
An article published on a media website claims Justin Bieber admits that taking the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine left him with permanent paralysis in his face. We fact-checked and found the claim to be Mostly False.
The Claim
A media website named VANCOUVERTIMES published an article titled ‘Justin Bieber: The vaccine ruined my life’ to claim that ‘Justin Bieber now admits that he regrets taking the Covid-19 vaccine, saying that it left him with permanent paralysis in his face. Bieber made the confession to a close friend, who later leaked the information to the Daily Mail. Bieber reportedly plans on suing Pfizer for causing his paralysis, despite the fact the company is shielded from liability’.
This article hyperlinked social media posts from Twitter that shows social media users have linked Bieber’s condition with the Pfizer Covid vaccine.
The article at the end of the story mentions that the piece is a satire.
Fact Check
Did Justin Bieber get facial paralysis from the Pfizer vaccine?
No evidence. No official evidence suggests that Justin Bieber got facial paralysis induced by the Pfizer Covid vaccine. Bieber first announced his facial paralysis due to Ramsay Hunt syndrome on 11th June 2022 through his official Instagram account. After which, several social media users have linked his condition with the Pfizer Covid vaccine to spread misinformation.
Recently, his wife Hailey Bieber updated on Justin Bieber’s health, saying Bieber is recovering fast.
Is Ramsay Hunt Syndrome a side effect of Pfizer Covid vaccine?
It does not seem so. The Pfizer safety document does not suggest Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is a side effect or an adverse event of the Pfizer Covid vaccine. However, the document shows facial paralysis is an adverse event that has affected some people.
Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is a painful rash around-ear or on the face caused by the varicella-zoster virus that infects a nerve in the head. The syndrome can cause facial paralysis and loss of hearing in the affected ear. Moreover, the symptoms of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome may become permanent in certain situations.
While searching about recorded cases of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome following the Covid vaccine, we found two case studies that have discussed the recorded case of patients acquiring the syndrome after the Pfizer Covid vaccine. However, both these papers have discussed two patients in total which are clearly not enough to establish the syndrome as a side effect of the mRNA Covid vaccine.
A false social claim that the Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla resign from his post because mRNA vaccines are now proven unsafe.
THIP MEDIA TAKE: The available evidence does not confirm whether Justin Bieber got the syndrome following the Pfizer Covid vaccine. Moreover, the available published literature also does not confirm whether Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is a side effect of the mRNA Covid vaccine.
