| - Fact Check: NOT pregnant with nine babies! This lady with big belly had cancer
A video of a Chinese cancer patient with a swollen belly was falsely shared as a woman pregnant with nine babies.

The woman was not pregnant with nine babies. She was suffering from multiple diseases including ovarian cancer, that caused her belly to swell so much.
A video making the rounds on social media shows a woman with a giant belly with bulging veins. Those sharing the clip claimed that the lady was pregnant with nine babies. The video shows her first in the hospital and then a row of newborns, seemingly implying that she had given birth to the nine children.
One person shared the video on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “Living with 9 babies for 9 months! Mothers are the most magnificent creatures in the world. But it is not clear whether the dad is crying from joy or sadness.” An archived version of this post can be found here.
India Today found that the video showed a Chinese woman suffering from multiple ailments including ovarian cancer that led to the condition of her stomach.
Our Probe
A reverse search of keyframes from the viral video led us to a news report featuring screenshots from the video in question. According to it, the woman was Huang Guoxian, a mother of two from China, whose stomach had been expanding for two years due to an underlying medical condition. The woman was diagnosed with multiple diseases including ovarian cancer and liver cirrhosis.
We then found another report about this woman from October 2020. It stated that the Chinese woman went through surgery. Huang Guoxian’s abdomen reportedly ballooned by nearly 40 kilograms as it filled with fluid and tumours of different sizes in a span of two years.
Huang, a resident of the Dazhi village of Songqi Town near Anshun, China, is a farmer who had two kids — a son and a daughter. Her belly, which was reportedly flat in 2018, swelled to an enormous size in two years. Huang then made a plea for help through local media following which donations poured in for her treatment in 2020.
Huang reportedly received more than Rs 11 lakh in donations, and after the surgery, Huang said she would use the remaining amount to start a small business upon her recovery. We also found photos of Huang who went bald during the cancer treatment.
While we could not find a source for the multiple shots of the newborns in the viral video, several news reports make it clear that the woman was not pregnant with nine babies.
