  • Last Updated on February 6, 2025 by Dr Priyamvada Quick Take A social media post claims that an Ayurvedic formula can cure all types of baldness. Our fact check shows this claim is false. The Claim A Facebook post suggests that its Ayurvedic formula can cure all types of baldness with a 100% guarantee. It directs viewers to apply the product directly to the bald areas and not cover them with anything like a cap. The post promises results for everyone, regardless of the type of baldness. It also claims the product is 100% natural, helps prevent hair fall, promotes healthy hair growth, strengthens hair roots, and restores shine and volume. The video further claims that the product is suitable for all hair types and will provide thicker, longer, and healthier hair. Fact Check Does Ayurveda offer a guaranteed cure for baldness? Not really. While Ayurveda can support hair health, it doesn’t guarantee a cure for baldness. Ayurvedic treatments may help promote hair regrowth but may not reverse conditions like male-pattern baldness or alopecia areata, which often occurs due to genetics or immune issues. The claim also lacks a complete list of ingredients and instructs users to call to order the product without providing any concrete details about it. A 2022 case study showed Ayurvedic treatments helped a 25-year-old with hair loss from índralupta (similar to alopecia areata). After 6 weeks of treatments like purging and blood-letting, hair began regrowing within 15 days. However, this was not a topical remedy like the one claimed. In a 2023 case study, a patient with severe hair loss (Alopecia Totalis) improved after using a combination of Ayurvedic herbs and cupping therapy, when steroids didn’t work. A 2021 case study helped a 20-year-old with severe hair loss and itching using Ayurvedic oils, which improved his symptoms and regrew hair. Similarly, a 2017 study successfully treated Alopecia Areata with Ayurvedic therapy, though it suggests further testing is necessary. These studies were conducted under expert supervision in controlled settings. Moreover, they are case studies, not clinical trials, which makes it hard to generalise the results to a larger population. While Ayurveda can support your hair, like a healthy diet supports your body, it can’t fix genetic issues or immune problems. It may help with temporary hair loss due to stress or poor nutrition, but results vary depending on the cause. Dr Mohit Sandhu, Ayurveda Consultant, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, clarifies, “Ayurveda recognises that each person is unique. We don’t offer a blanket cure for baldness. We carefully assess each individual’s constitution (Prakriti) and the specific causes of their hair loss, which can range from nutritional deficiencies to stress or underlying medical conditions. This personalised approach allows us to tailor treatments, but results can still vary. What works for one person may not work for another. It’s about finding the right balance for your body.” On a related note, some claims suggest that adding vodka to shampoo can strengthen hair, but this is not true. Can topical applications regrow hair on completely bald scalps? Not always. Baldness like androgenetic alopecia is often due to hormones and genetics. Once hair follicles are permanently damaged or dormant, topical treatments, Ayurvedic or otherwise, can’t revive them. Some proven treatments, like minoxidil or finasteride, can help in early stages, but require a doctor’s diagnosis and supervision. While potentially beneficial for hair health, Ayurvedic or herbal products lack strong scientific evidence for curing baldness. Dr Ekansh Shekhar, Dermatologist, Cosmetologist, Trichologist, and Aesthetic Medicine Consultant in Lucknow, explains, “Topical applications can help improve hair health and stimulate growth in areas with thinning hair, but they are unlikely to regrow hair on completely bald scalps, especially in cases of advanced hair loss like male-pattern baldness or alopecia areata. These conditions often require a more comprehensive treatment approach under professional care.” Similarly, another home remedy claims that curry leaves, aloe vera, and shampoo can make hair grow in just 15 days. However, this is factually inaccurate. Is the “100% guarantee for everyone” claim scientifically valid? No, it is not. Scientifically, a “100% guarantee for everyone” is not feasible. Hair loss treatments are highly individual, dependent on factors like age, genetics, underlying health conditions, and the specific stage of hair loss. Medical experts caution against products making such guarantees, as these claims oversimplify complex biological processes. These promises are typically marketing strategies, not evidence-based assurances. Are Ayurvedic treatments safe for everyone? Not always. The term ‘natural’ can be misleading. While Ayurveda offers many beneficial practices, some remedies, even those with seemingly harmless components, can still lead to skin irritation, burns, or allergic reactions if used improperly. We recommend consulting a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before starting any new treatment. Additionally, it’s crucial to be aware of the ingredients in any product you use. Lack of transparency in this regard raises concerns about both safety and efficacy. Look for products that have been rigorously tested and certified. THIP Media Take The claim that an Ayurvedic formula can cure all types of baldness is false. Ayurvedic remedies can support hair health, but they don’t cure all baldness types. Hair regrowth depends on the cause, and conditions like male-pattern baldness aren’t reversed by topical treatments alone. “100% guarantee” claims are marketing ploys. For hair loss concerns, consult a dermatologist or trichologist for tailored, effective treatment. Don’t fall for miracle cures – seek professional advice.
