In November 2024, claims circulated that Tesla founder and X owner Elon Musk had once accused novelist and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, of destroying "western civilization." For example, the claim appeared on a Reddit post (archived):

The post included an image that read:
elon musk said Bezos' ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott is destroying western civilization by donating billions to charity for women, minorities and marginalized groups, so in response she doubled her donations.
Perfect response.
As of this writing, the post had gained 2,200 upvotes. Further, Snopes readers sought to confirm the claim in repeated searches, asking if Musk had indeed made this accusation against Scott.
The claim is correct. In an X post dated March 6, 2024, Musk accused Scott of being a reason "Western Civilization died."
As Snopes reported in March 2024, Scott is an outspoken philanthropist who said she intended to give away her fortune. Her website includes an updated list of organizations to which she has donated over the years.
The post on X, now deleted, was archived and is still available for viewing. Snopes also saved a screen capture:

While he didn't directly name Scott in his post, he was referring to her. He was replying to another X post, also deleted but preserved in the internet archive, that listed the causes to which Scott had focused on donating, according to the list on her website:

According to her fund's website, over half of the orgs to which she's donated so far deal with issues of race and/or gender.
Her fund ought to be called The AWFL Fund. It's the ultimate aspirational expression of the most awful group in the US.
Musk Had Criticized Scott Before
This was not the first time Musk spoke out against Scott. In May 2022, he also criticized her for her philanthropic efforts, accusing her of donating to Democrats, whom he perceived were attacking Tesla (archived):
True. Tesla was attacked by Romney in 2 of 3 presidential debates. Those lines were fed to him by a particular individual in the oil & gas industry.
The Dems turned negative over the past ~12 months. At least part of it is Mackenzie's donation to PACs posing as charities.
In the same exchange, he then suggested Scott was turning on all tech industry moguls so as to retaliate against her ex-husband, Bezos (archived):
Yes. It's safe to say that Mackenzie [ahem] Scott is not exactly a big fan of her ex-husband.
Unfortunately, a lot of others are getting caught in the crossfire.
