  • Last Updated on October 16, 2024 by Nivedita Quick Take A social media post claims that Lyme disease and HIV/AIDS are the same and there is no such thing as Lyme disease. We fact-checked and found the claim to be False. The Claim A social media post reads, “No such thing as Lyme disease. It was & is always HIV AIDS caused by the GP 120 injected! Treating people with antibiotic protocols destroys their gut microbiome and, therefore destroys their health! #truth #news #health #lymedisease #HIV #AIDS #thursdaymorning #thursdayvibes #ThursdayThoughts” Fact Check What is Lyme disease? Lyme disease is a tickborne infectious disease caused by bacteria of the Borrelia burgdorferi species, which are transmitted to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks. The most common symptom of Lyme disease is a rash called erythema migrans (EM), which appears as a red, expanding circle or bull’s-eye around the bite site. Other symptoms may include fever, headache, fatigue, muscle aches, and joint pain. If left untreated, Lyme disease can spread to the joints, heart, and nervous system. The symptoms of Lyme disease can vary depending on the stage of the infection. In most cases, it is easily treated and cured with antibiotics. However, some people may experience chronic symptoms after treatment. If you think you may have Lyme disease, it is important to see a doctor for diagnosis and treatment. What is HIV AIDS? HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is the virus that causes AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). While the terms are related, they represent different stages of the same infection: HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus): HIV is the virus that attacks the immune system, specifically targeting CD4 cells, which are essential for maintaining immune responses against infections and diseases. When a person becomes infected with HIV, the virus replicates within their CD4 cells, gradually weakening the immune system over time. This can make the body more susceptible to various infections and illnesses. AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome): AIDS is the advanced stage of HIV infection. It occurs when the immune system becomes severely damaged and the CD4 cell count drops significantly. At this point, the individual becomes highly vulnerable to opportunistic infections (infections that take advantage of a weakened immune system) and certain types of cancers that a healthy immune system would normally be able to control or prevent. Not everyone who has HIV will develop AIDS. With proper medical care and treatment, many people with HIV can avoid reaching the advanced stage of the disease. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is the primary treatment for HIV infection. ART involves a combination of medications that can suppress the replication of the virus, slow the progression of the disease, and improve the immune system’s function. As we uncover the myths surrounding Lyme disease, it’s also important to highlight the distinct risks associated with various STDs, such as those discussed in our article about Donovanosis. While discussing the differences between Lyme disease and HIV/AIDS is important for accurate health education, it’s also essential to examine how the dynamics of HIV infection are evolving, including the rise in cases among heterosexual individuals. Both articles aim to dispel myths surrounding these significant health issues. One of the social media posts is post claims that AIDS, SARS, Zika, and Ebola are made by humans. Are Lyme disease and HIV/AIDS the same thing? No, Lyme disease and HIV/AIDS are distinct medical conditions caused by different agents and mechanisms, and there is no known connection between Lyme disease and the GP120 injection. Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi, while HIV/AIDS is caused by a virus called HIV. The two diseases are very different in terms of their symptoms, transmission, and treatment, as mentioned above. Lyme disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected ticks. The symptoms of Lyme disease include a characteristic rash, fever, fatigue, joint pain, and other symptoms. HIV/AIDS, on the other hand, is primarily transmitted through contact with specific body fluids, such as blood, semen, vaginal fluids, rectal fluids, and breast milk, rather than through tick bites. The term “GP120 injection” is not a recognized medical term. GP120 is a protein found on the surface of the HIV virus and is involved in the virus’s ability to enter and infect immune cells. In the context of HIV, GP120 plays a role in the virus’s replication and interaction with the host immune system. GP120 binds to a CD4 receptor on a host cell, such as a CD4 T lymphocyte (CD4 cell). Additionally, the claimant Dr. Judy Mikovits has been known to spread misinformation in the past and various fact-checking organizations have fact-checked her claims, as seen on Google Fact Check Explorer. Earlier, we fact checked a claim that Lyme disease was invested in a lab.
