  • Last Updated on April 10, 2024 by Neelam Singh Quick Take A social media post claims that consuming barley, honey, and triphala aids in weight loss. We fact checked and found the claim to be half true. The Claim An image posted by the user “bittoos_health” on threads asserts that drinking a mixture of barley, honey, and triphala can assist with weight loss. Fact Check Can weight loss be as simple as drinking this concoction? No. Losing weight means making changes to what you eat, how you live, and managing health conditions like PCOD or thyroid problems that cause weight gain. There’s not much proof that pills or supplements really help with weight loss. So, it’s important to focus on healthy eating and lifestyle habits. Dietitian Harita highlights that weight loss approaches should be tailored to individual needs, cautioning against a one-size-fits-all solution. Dr. Umesh Wadhavani explains that chronic health conditions are due to various factors including diet, lifestyle, stress, relationships, sleep, and physical activity. Does the combination of barley, honey and triphala help in weight loss? The combination of barley, honey, and triphala is often touted as a remedy for weight loss in some traditional systems of medicine, particularly Ayurveda. Let’s break down each component: Barley Barley may contribute to weight loss due to its high fiber content, which helps promote feelings of fullness. Additionally, barley contains complex carbohydrates that are digested slowly, helping to stabilize blood sugar levels and prevent cravings. However, while barley can be a nutritious addition to a weight loss diet, it’s not a guaranteed solution. Honey There is no scientific evidence to support the claim that honey aids in weight loss. While honey is a natural sweetener and may offer some health benefits, consuming it in excess can contribute to weight gain. Therefore, moderation is the key when including honey in a weight loss regimen. Triphala Triphala has shown promise as a therapeutic agent for weight loss and reduction of body fat. Animal studies have demonstrated that Triphala treatment can decrease body fat percentage, body weight, and energy intake in obese mice. Additionally, it reduces total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL cholesterol levels. Human trials have also shown positive results, with subjects treated with Triphala. While each of these components may have potential benefits for weight loss individually, there’s no scientific evidence to support the effectiveness of this specific combination for weight loss. We’ve conducted fact checks on numerous weight loss claims, such as whether turmeric, chia seeds, cumin, carom seeds, and many others help in weight loss.
