  • FACT CHECK: Did CBC Report That Justin Trudeau Is Calling For An Investigation Into Canada’s Security Services? A photo shared on Facebook allegedly shows a CBC article stating that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is calling for an investigation into systemic racism at the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). Verdict: False The image is digitally fabricated. A spokesperson from CBC stated no such article had been published by the news outlet. Fact Check: Canadian opposition parties have called for Trudeau to launch an investigation into election interference from China, according to The Guardian. Trudeau recently stated foreign election interference is “an extraordinarily serious issue” and the country “must be on guard against it,” Reuters reported. The Facebook image allegedly shows a screenshot of a Feb. 27 CBC article reporting that Trudeau is calling for an investigation into systemic racism at CSIS. The article is credited to CBC reporter Darren Major. “Trudeau calls for investigation into systemic racism at CSIS in response to Chinese election interference,” the alleged headline reads. (RELATED: Does This Image Show Justin Trudeau With An Underage Girl?) “This kind of racist witch hunt coming from our top intelligence agency is highly concerning,” the subheading reads, attributing the quote to Trudeau. There is no evidence for the claim. The alleged article cannot be found on CBC’s website or any of its verified social media accounts. Check Your Fact found no credible news reports stating Trudeau has called for such an investigation. “I can confirm that CBC did not publish this article,” a CBC spokesperson confirmed in an email to Check Your Fact. “We are aware of a number of posted images of fake stories attributed to CBC News and are working with Social Media providers to flag and remove these false and inflammatory manipulated images.” This is not the first time misinformation about public figures has spread online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim Marjorie Taylor Greene said the Bible referred to dinosaurs as dragons.
