A pilgrimage to the temple is believed to cleanse one's soul and wash away sins. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam manages this temple and it is controlled by the Andhra Pradesh government. The goal of TTD is to serve the pilgrims who visit Tirumala and Tirupati and to preserve the sanctity of the area. In January 2025, a stampede occurred at the Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam ticketing counter in Tirupati killing 6 people and injuring many others. This stampede occurred as thousands of devotees were waiting to get tokens for the darshan of the Lord on Vaikunta Ekadasi festival day. Social media posts claiming that a boy was killed due to a stampede at the Annandanam center in Tirumala on February 22, 2025, are going viral. The claim is shared along with the news report published by Sakshi TV. The claim goes as “తిరుమలలో మళ్ళీ దారుణం వెంగమాం Here is the archive link of the claim. Fact Check: The claim is False. TTD refuted these claims. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) took to their social media accounts to state that the claim in circulation is False. In an official statement issued, the TTD clarified the actual circumstances surrounding the incident. According to the Instagram post published by TTD, the news circulating on social media that a boy died in a stampede at the Anna Prasadam center in Tirumala three days ago is false. In fact, a 16-year-old youth named Manjunath has been suffering from heart disease for the past few years. On the evening of the 22nd of this month, while returning after taking meal at the Vengamamba Annadana Satra in Tarigonda, he fell unconscious. The TTD staff immediately rushed the youth to the local Ashwini Hospital. Later, the youth was sent to SVIMS for better treatment. Unfortunately, the youth died today. The TTD also stated that it is very sad to spread the news that the youth died in a stampede in the Annadana Satra queue in Tirumala. Legal action will be taken against those who spread such false news and hurt the sentiments of devotees. Few mainstream media websites published the same clarification. The TTD also shared the CCTV footage which clarifies that there was no stampede, and also the family clarifying that the boy collapsed due to cardiac arrest and not a stampede. This video was shared with the caption “False reports claim a boy died in a stampede at Tirumala Annadanam Centre. Truth: 16-year-old Manjunath, who had a heart condition, collapsed on Feb 22 and later passed away.
