  • Fact Check: Video of a mob raising instigating slogans while attacking Hindus' houses is not from Telangana but Pakistan In a significant move to accommodate religious observances during the month of Ramzan, the Telangana government Claim : A viral video shows a violent mob forcibly entering into Houses of Hindus with instigating slogans in Hyderabad, TelanganaFact : The video is not from Telangana and is not recent, it is from Hyderabad in Pakistan, and is from the year 2022In a significant move to accommodate religious observances during the month of Ramzan, the Telangana government granted Muslim employees in government departments, public sector units, and educational institutions permission to leave work an hour earlier than usual. This decision has sparked criticism from opposition party leaders who accused the government of engaging in appeasement politics. The leaders accused the Congress government’s decision as a form of tokenism. They pointed out that no similar concessions are made for Hindus during their festivals when they observe fasting. Amidst all this, a video shows an angry mob climbing into a closed residential building knocking on the doors violently, and shouting slogans like “sir tan se juda’, which means 'separating the head from the body’. This video is in circulation with the caption in Hindi “ये नजारा अफगानिस्तान,पाकिस्तान का नहीं तेलंगाना का दृश्य है।जो सर तन से जुदा नारे के साथ हिन्दुओं के घरों में जबरन घुस रहें हैं l अपनी सुरक्षा स्वयंम करो वर्ना कश्मीर जैसे हालात हो जाएंगे,कोइ नेता,मिडिया तुम्हें बचाने नहीं आएगी जैसे कश्मीर में हिन्दुओं को कोई बचाने नहीं गया ।।*” When translated, it claims: “This scene is not from Afghanistan or Pakistan but from Telangana. They are forcibly entering the houses of Hindus with slogans like 'separate head from body'. Take care of your own safety otherwise, the situation will become like that in Kashmir, no leader, or media will come to save you just like no one went to save the Hindus in Kashmir.*” Here is the archive link of the claim. Fact check: The claim is False. The viral video was not shot in Telangana and is not recent. It was shot in Hyderabad, Pakistan in the year 2022. When we extracted keyframes from the video and searched using Google reverse image search, we found several articles and social media posts to confirm that the video was from Hyderabad, Pakistan. According to a few posts on social media, over a personal clash with a resident in Pakistan’s Hyderabad, a man belonging to a minority Hindu community was reportedly booked in a fake case of blasphemy. This man was identified as Ashok Kumar, a sweeper lodged at a Rabia center in Saddar, Hyderabad, Pakistan, and was severely attacked by a violent mob. According to Free Press Journal, "Hyderabad police (Pakistan) dispersed a violent mob which was demanding handing over a Hindu sanitary worker accusing him of #blasphemy Police claims the sanitary worker was targeted because of a personal clash with a local resident," said Mubashir Zaidi in a tweet. Hindu sanitary worker Ashok Kumar was booked under 295B of blasphemy over alleged desecration of the Quran in Hyderabad. The allegation came after a brawl with shopkeeper Bilal Abbasi who lodged the complaint against Kumar. Many people have been lynched to death in Pakistan on the mere accusation of blasphemy. Countless others languish in jails for years with no hope of getting justice as the lawyers, fearing for their own lives, refuse to defend them. An article published in Telangana Today states the video is from Pakistan showing an incident that occurred in August 2022. Telugupost also debunked the viral video in the year 2022, when the same claim came up in September 2022, stating that the incident occurred in Hyderabad, Telangana. Therefore, the viral video is not from Hyderabad, Telangana, and is not recent. The claim is False.
