Fact :The person seen participating in Garba event is not PM Narendra Modi but actor Vikas Mahante
Garba is a traditional Gujarati folk dance performed during the festival of Navaratri. On October 15, Narendra Modi shared a music video of a garba song called ” Maadi” on his X account with the caption “As the auspicious Navaratri dawns upon us, Let the festival rhymes embrace everyone! I thank @meetbros, divya kumar for giving voice and music to the garba”. The video, allegedly showing the prime minister dancing to a Garba song, has gone viral.
In this video, Modi is seen dancing with some women. An Instagram user, School of Vedic Science, shared the video with a caption “Wah Modi ji Wah.”
An Instagram user Dr. Nandinibjp posted this viral video and captioned it “Did anyone know our PM dances so well...enjoy”
X user NOISE posted a 30-second clip showing PM Modi dancing to Garba beats with the caption, “Is that PM Modi dancing Garba? Or is it his Look-alike or deep fake? Nice moves, Mr.2024 with an emoji”
Facebook user FREE BIRD captioned it as “PM Modi doing a Beautiful Garba dance”. A must-see video
FACT CHECK
The claim is Misleading.
We did not find any news about PM Modi dancing at a Garba event. We found many comments under the viral video that the man in the video was not Modi but his
look alike.
An X user Prof. reacted to the video and wrote “he is Vikas mahante a businessman-turned-actor who looks like Prime Minister Narendra Modi” and added screenshots of Mahenteʼs Instagram story
on Mahanteʼs Instagram official page, we found a video that was shared on November 7, 2023. In that video, he announced that he was invited as a chief guest at a “Diwali mela” in London.
At the Garba event, Mahante looked very similar to PM Modi, and he even dressed like the PM.
We also found a Facebook post related to the London Diwali Mela event for which Vikas Mahante was invited as a chief guest. In this post, it was stated that PM Modi’s and Salman Khan’s dupe will be participating in the “Diwali Shopping Bazar 2023”.
Thus, we find that the viral video does not show Prime Minister Modi dancing to Garba beats but his doppelganger and actor Vikas Mahante.The claim is Misleading.
