  • Fact Check: Viral image claiming a teacher carrying his own baby in classroom is MISLEADING His wife passed away during childbirth but he has taken responsibility for taking child and college classes together. The real-life hero. An image of a teacher teaching while carrying a baby in the classroom was shared virally on various social media platforms with the caption, "His wife passed away during childbirth but he has taken responsibility for taking child and college classes together. The real-life hero." The image went viral in 2021. Fact Check: The claim that the image shows a teacher tending his son in the classroom after the death of his wife is MISLEADING. He was carrying the child of his student so that she can take notes. When we searched the image using Google reverse image search, we found an article in CNN Espanol sharing the viral image, with the title "Teacher holds his student's baby so she can take notes". According to CNN Espanol, a Mexican teacher uploaded a photo on Facebook carrying the baby of one of his students so that she can take notes. The teacher in the image is Moises Reyes Sandoval, a law professor at the Inter-American University for Development, UNID, in Acapulco. The professor shared the image as the baby's mother, Yalena Salas, 22, is a source of pride because despite having a number of hurdles, she was pursuing academics without dropping out of school. In Mexico, school dropouts are high and this image exhibits a great effort by the teacher as well as the student. The professor shared his image carrying the child on Facebook with the caption, "I have a student, who has not dropped out of school despite her different roles, that's why I decided to carry her son, without interrupting the class to take notes. #acapulco" According to altonivel.com.mx, the teacher held six-month-old Yareth for 45 minutes in a kangaroo bag and continued teaching. To the surprise of the students and teacher, the child remained calm throughout the class. Hence, the claim that the teacher was carrying his own child as his wife passed away during childbirth is MISLEADING. He was carrying his student's child so that she can take her notes and concentrate on the class.
