  • Are stadiums being built in Hungary to "be like FEMA camps," where, in case of "people awakening, the masses can be collected and executed?" No, that's not true: The myth about the hundreds of camps allegedly built by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the United States was debunked several times and there is no evidence proving that anyone plans to kill masses of people in Hungary's sports stadiums. The claim appeared in a video (archived here) published on TikTok by @kodiundklara on June 28, 2023, under the title "Why are stadiums being built," translated from Hungarian into English by Lead Stories staff. The person talking in the video introduces himself as Laszlo Jeges. When the other part of humanity starts to wake up, these stadiums might offer events, even free events... 'Come here!' Or even in the name of unity, 'Come here, let's unite and overthrow the powers behind the scenes.' [...] And what will happen there? Let's say that the Holocaust is nothing in comparison. [...] This is the main aim of the stadiums, to be able to stop a potential threat: our awakening. We will be massed in the same place where the awakened and eager part of the nation will be executed. (Translation from Hungarian by Lead Stories staff). This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing: (Source: TikTok screenshot taken on Thu Jun 29 18:25:02 2023 UTC) The long-running conspiracy theory claiming that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) built hundreds of camps all over the United States to imprison Americans has already been debunked by Lead Stories and other organizations. Lead Stories debunked a Facebook post back in 2022 claiming that FEMA Camp Containers were used during the Super Bowl half-time show. A FEMA spokesperson told Lead Stories that the claim was completely false and it turned out that the picture actually showed a Chinese quarantine camp due to COVID-19 outbreaks. (Source: Facebook screenshot taken on Wed Feb 16 16:03:17 2022 UTC) FEMA is a US government agency that doesn't operate in Hungary. Indeed, the government of Prime Minister Viktor Orban has built nine new stadiums, mainly for football, all over Hungary since 2010. However, there is no evidence that those are not regular sports stadiums but facilities built with the intent of imprisoning or executing people in case of a "mass awakening." A Google News search performed by Lead Stories on June 30, 2023, using the keywords "stadiums Hungary execution camps" did not yield any report to corroborate the claim.
