A video featuring Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma getting off a plane is going viral on social media, with some users mistakenly linking it to the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, claiming it was filmed in Pakistan, where Rohit Sharma is being welcomed. Notably, the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from February 19 to March 9, 2025. Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral claim is false. This video dates back to October 3, 2024, when Rohit Sharma attended an event to lay the foundation stone of a sports complex in Rashin, Maharashtra. India will play all its Champions Trophy matches in Dubai, not Pakistan. What is viral? Facebook user ‘Khizar Shamman‘ shared the viral video (archive link) on February 10, 2025, and wrote, “Rohit Sharma Welcome to Pakistan.” Investigation To verify the authenticity of the viral video, we conducted a Google reverse image search on its keyframes and found this clip uploaded on several social media accounts in October 2024. An Instagram user named ‘rohitmanarmy.45’ uploaded this video on October 3, 2024, with the caption “The grand welcome of boss Rohit Sharma at Rashin Maharashtra.” Similarly, X user Rushii also shared the viral video on October 3, 2024, and mentioned that it was from Rashin in Maharashtra. A search using relevant keywords led us to many news reports from October 3, 2024, confirming the context of the video. According to a Navbharat Times report, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma attended a program to lay the foundation stone of a sports complex in Rashin, Maharashtra. The tweet in which the viral video can be seen was also embedded in the news. It’s noteworthy that the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates from February 19 to March 9, 2025. However, due to security concerns and political tensions, The BCCI refused to play in Pakistan. As a result, the ICC implemented a hybrid model, with India playing all its matches in Dubai. We spoke to Dainik Jagran’s sports editor Abhishek Tripathi, who confirmed, “This video of Rohit Sharma is not recent. The Indian team will not play the Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan. All their matches will be held in Dubai.” Facebook user Khizar Shamman, who shared the viral post with a fake claim, is from Saudi Arabia and has around six lakh followers. Conclusion: Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the viral claim is false. This video is from October 3, 2024, when Rohit Sharma attended an event to lay the foundation stone of a sports complex in Rashin, Maharashtra. India will play all its Champions Trophy matches in Dubai, not in Pakistan.
