  • Amid the ongoing Delhi election results, a video showing a woman painting the hoarding of Delhi's outgoing Chief Minister Atishi and Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal in black paint is being shared as a recent incident on social media. The claim: Those sharing wrote, "People of Delhi have announced their result by painting Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi's poster in black." (Archives of similar claims can be found here and here.) Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false as the video is from February 2024. This happened in Kalkaji, Delhi, when locals demonstrated against extended water logging in their locality. When no action was taken, local women defaced the signboards of Kejriwal and Atishi. What we found: We divided the video into multiple keyframes and ran a Google reverse image search on some of them. We found a post which featured the same viral video on X (formerly Twitter) by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s leader Vijender Gupta, from 28 February 2024. The post noted, "The people of Delhi put immense trust in the AAP government. They gave them full majority. But what did they get in return? A life in hell. Women of Shri Nivas Puri Ward erupt in anger For the last 15 days, their homes have been invaded by sewer water, and there is nobody to hear their woes! (sic)." Similarly, BJP Delhi's handle also uploaded the video on their official X account noting how the women defaced Atishi and Kejriwal's poster after constant complains about dirty water entering their homes in Sriniwaspuri. We, then, found reports by Free Press Journal and ETV Bharat from February 2024 which stated that this happened amid a flooding emergency in Priya Camp, Kalkaji. The news outlet reported that residents experienced significant water accumulation in their homes for multiple days, with no solution available. When no action or help was provided, local women demonstrated by covering the posters of Kejriwal and Atishi (Member of Legislative Assembly - Kalkaji) with black paint. Delhi Election Results 2025: The voting for Delhi's assembly elections was conducted on 5 February. The counting and results for the same were announced on 8 February. Hence, this video predates the ongoing polls. The BJP has won the polls with 48 seats, while the AAP received 22 seats as of 3:34 PM. Catch the live updates here. Conclusion: A false claim went viral that Delhi residents covered Atishi and Kejriwal's poster with blank paint amid the ongoing poll results.
