  • A video showing Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad breaking down is going viral to claim that he cried after his son, Ajit Prasad, lost Milkipur MLA seat in Uttar Pradesh. Who shared this?: Several social media users including X (formerly Twitter) user Mr Sinha, who often shares misinformation, also shared this claim. This post garnered over two lakh views at the time of writing this story. How did we find out the truth?: We performed a reverse image search on some of the keyframes of the viral video and it led us to a report shared by National Herald on 2 February 2025. It also carried a screengrab from the viral video. The report stated that Prasad broke down during a press conference which took place to address the alleged murder of a 22-year-old Dalit woman, whose body was found in a canal in Ayodhya on 1 February 2025. It further stated that Prasad met the victim's family and at the conference he asserted that he will raise this matter in the Lok Sabha. He was also quoted as saying, "If we don't get justice, I will resign." Taking a cue, we performed a relevant keyword search on Google which led us to several reports carrying the same information. We also found a version of the same video shared by Prasad on his X account. However, this account is not verified. The post's caption mentioned that the body of a Dalit woman was found in Ayodhya. Bye Election to Assembly Constituencies Results: Chandrabhanu Paswan from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defeated Prasad's son, Ajit Prasad, in Milkipur constituency. Conclusion: A video showing Awadhesh Prasad crying is going viral to claim with a false context that he broke down after his son lost Milkipur elections.
