Listen to Story India Today Fact Check These pictures from 2017 show Turkish military humiliating Syrian refugees by forcing the men to wear lingeries as they were trying to cross the border. A couple of pictures of two men in lingerie has gone viral on social media with the claim that they were ISIS terrorists captured by the Syrian army. The claim says the men were fighting wearing lingerie and confessed that they were taking them for the 72 virgins they were supposed to meet in heaven. Multiple Facebook users along with a caption in Hindi saying, “The Syrian army captured some ISIS terrorists who were fighting in lingerie. During questioning, they confessed that they were told since they were going to Jannat where they would be meeting 72 virgins, they should carry the lingerie for them.” India Today Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) has found the claim along with the pictures to be false. These pictures from 2017 show the Turkish military humiliating Syrian refugees by forcing the men to wear lingeries as they were trying to cross the border. The archived versions of the posts can be seen here and here. Multiple Facebook users have shared the post. AFWA investigation With the help of reverse image search, we found they were carried by several news websites three years back. “The Sun” and “Daily Mail” published reports on August 3, 2017, along with these and more pictures. As per these reports, Syrian refugees were humiliated and beaten by the Turkish army as they tried to cross the border. As per Daily Mail, “Images published on social media shows three men, reportedly Syrian refugees, all wearing brightly coloured women’s underwear with visible bruising and lacerations on their arms and backs.” According to “The Sun”, the incident took place at the border in Hatay, southern Turkey. Hence, the viral claim along with the images saying ISIS terrorists were wearing lingerie to carry them to heaven for 72 virgins is not true.
