  • Fact Check: Protests in London against BBC because of Modi documentary? Nope, these are anti-vaxxers The video was shot during an anti-vaccine demonstration called "Truth be Told" in London, where protestors gathered outside the Portland Place BBC headquarters. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video is from an anti-vaccine protest held on January 21 outside the BBC office in Portland Place, London. Despite the government-imposed ban on “India: The Modi Question”, the BBC documentary about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s alleged role in the 2002 Gujarat riots, opposition parties and free-speech activists have been screening the two-part documentary across the country. Meanwhile, a video of a large group of people chanting, “Shame on you,” and, “Take down the BBC,” has been circulated on social media. Those sharing the video said it showed the masses protesting against the BBC documentary outside the British broadcaster’s office in London. The archived versions of similar posts can be seen here and here. AFWA’s investigation, however, found that the video shows an anti-vaccine protest. It is not related to the controversial documentary on PM Modi in any way. AFWA PROBE With the help of a keyword search, we found the same video shared by multiple people on Facebook and Twitter since January 23. As per these posts, the video was shot during an anti-vaccine demonstration called “Truth be Told” in London, where protestors gathered outside the Portland Place BBC headquarters in London, England, on January 21. We also found the video was shared by a Twitter account called “Truth Be Told” on January 23. Additionally, we found other videos from the same event on Facebook. In these videos, the speakers at the demonstration could be heard talking about the adverse side effects caused by the Covid-19 vaccines. They also accused media organisations, including the BBC, of allegedly underreporting or not investigating the jab’s alleged harm. A four-hour-long live broadcast of the event can be seen here and here. We also found videos from the demonstration where people could be seen holding placards demanding justice for alleged vaccine injuries and deaths. Multiple news websites reported about this rally. Meanwhile, we found a few posters on social media calling for a protest against the BBC documentary in front of the BBC headquarters in Portland Place, London. As per this poster, the rally is scheduled to be held on January 29. It is, thus, clear that the video in question is not related to the controversial BBC documentary on PM Modi at all.
