A CNBC spokesperson denied the outlet published the purported article in an email to Check Your Fact. Fact Check: At least 23 Democrats and 16 Republicans reportedly received campaign money from a Silicon Valley Bank political action committee in 2018, according to Fox News. Silicon Valley Bank crashed on Mar. 10, raising concerns within the financial industry about the financial stability of regional banks, Reuters reported. “AMC Theatres linked to Silicon Valley Bank’s collapse: What happened?” the purported CNBC headline featured in the Facebook post claims. “Concern on Wall Street as AMC Theatres cause the collapse of one of the largest banks in the United States,” additional text below the headline reads. The claim is false. There are no credible news reports suggesting AMC Theatres are linked to the recent Silicon Valley Bank collapse. Likewise, the purported article is not found via a search of CNBC’s website or its verified social media accounts. In addition, neither AMC Theatres nor Silicon Valley Bank have publicly addressed the purported claim. (RELATED: Does This Image Show An Opinion Article From The Guardian About Gary Lineker?) Furthermore, the purported article, which claims to have been updated on Mar. 12 and allegedly written by Tanaya Macheel, does not appear on Macheel’s author page on CNBC’s website. Macheel’s CNBC author page shows she wrote two articles about the Silicon Valley Bank collapse on Mar. 12, though neither of them mentions AMC Theatres. “We can confirm that the article in question was never published on CNBC.com,” a CNBC spokesperson denied the outlet published the purported article in an email to Check Your Fact. Check Your Fact has also contacted an AMC Theatres spokesperson for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.
