  • FACT CHECK: Does This Video Show A Ukrainian Strike On A Russian Airbase In Crimea? A video shared on Facebook allegedly shows a Ukrainian strike on a Russian airbase in Crimea. Verdict: False The footage is from a military-based simulation game. Fact Check: The Russian military is creating new fortifications in Southern Ukraine after withdrawing from the right bank of the Dnipro River following a Ukrainian counteroffensive, according to The New York Times. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) stated that Russia views the prospects of a renewed Ukrainian counteroffensive into the south as a “serious threat,” the outlet reported. The Facebook video, viewed more than 30,000 times, claims the “main Russian airfield” in Crimea was destroyed. The video’s caption reads, “RUSSIA LOST! The main Russian airfield destroyed by the Ukrainian armed forces in Crimea.” This claim, though, is false. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found the video was posted to YouTube Nov. 20 with the same title. The Facebook video shows footage from ARMA 3, a simulation-based video game published by Bohemia Interactive. The video’s description states that the “video was created using content from Bohemia Interactive” and the channel has posted other ARMA 3 videos. Ukraine has targeted Crimean military bases in the last few months with drones and other attacks, according to Reuters. Ukraine likely attacked the Saki airbase in August, which resulted in the destruction and damage of 8 Russian aircraft, according to the Washington Post. (RELATED: Does This Video Show A Russian Fuel Convoy Destroyed In Kherson?) Misinformation around the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is not new. Check Your Fact recently debunked a video claiming that billionaire Elon Musk helped destroy a Russian aircraft carrier.
