  • FACT CHECK: Did The Navy JAG Corps Arrest Former Surgeon General Jerome Adams? A post shared on Facebook purports the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps allegedly arrested former Surgeon General Jerome Adams on charges of treason. Verdict: False The claim stems from an article published on a satirical website. A Navy JAG Corps spokesperson denied the authenticity of the claim. Fact Check: Following the end of former President Donald Trump’s administration, Adams became the Executive Director of Health Equity Initiatives at Purdue University in 2021, the New York Post reported. Adams said serving as the surgeon general under Trump made it difficult to find another job, The Washington Post reported. The Facebook post purports the U.S. Navy JAG Corps allegedly arrested Adams for treason. The post further claims Adams was in a secret romantic relationship with former Vice President Mike Pence and that the pair worked together to sell former President Donald Trump on Operation Warp Speed, an initiative that expedited the production of COVID-19 vaccines. The claim is false. There are no credible news reports suggesting the Navy JAG Corps arrested Adams for treason. Likewise, the claim is neither mentioned on the Navy JAG Corps’ website nor on its verified social media pages. In addition, Adams has not publicly commented on the claim. “This is not true,” Navy JAG Corps spokesperson Patricia Babb said of the claim in an email to Check Your Fact. A keyword search reveals the claim stems from a Jan. 3 article published on the website “Real Raw News.” The site includes a disclaimer on its “About Us” page indicating it contains “humor, parody, and satire.” (RELATED: Did The U.S. Military Destroy Blood Donations From Vaccinated Service Members?) This is not the first time a satirical claim has been promoted as true online. Check Your Fact previously debunked a social media post purporting Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was allegedly hung at Guantanamo Bay after facing a military tribunal.
