  • Fact Check: Not Cuttack hospital! DMK member shares 2022 pics of Gujarat hospital after Odisha train tragedy Allegedly, the photos showed a government hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, being renovated on account of the PM's visit there. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check Both images are several months old and from Gujarat's Morbi civil hospital. They were shot before PM Modi visited the hospital to meet the survivors of the Morbi bridge collapse. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Odisha's Balasore on Saturday, June 3, a day after the train accident that claimed at least 275 lives and injured more than a thousand. The PM also met victims of the accident. The same day, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam IT wing’s state deputy secretary Naveen N shared two photos showing repair work being done inside a building, alleging that it showed a government hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, being renovated on account of the PM’s planned visit there. He wrote, "On an account of PM’s Arrival, renovation process in going on in a full swing at Cuttack government hospital. Fate of the Nation." This post was shared with the hashtag “Odisha Train Accident”. Others shared the same photos and made the same allegation as well. Archived versions of those posts can be seen here and here. India Today, however, found that the images making rounds are several months old and from Gujarat. Our Probe Upon reverse-searching the viral images, we found an India Today report featuring both images published on November 1, 2022. Per the report, these images are from the Morbi civil hospital and were shot before PM Modi was set to visit there. Victims of the Morbi cable bridge tragedy were admitted there. On October 30, 2022, a suspension bridge over the Machchhu River in Morbi, Gujarat, collapsed, causing the deaths of at least 135 people and injuring more than 180. At the time, the Twitter accounts of the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress shared these images and claimed that the hospital went through repairs to cover up its flaws before PM Modi paid a visit on November 1 to meet the injured. The superintendent of Morbi civil hospital, Dr. Pradip Dudhrejiya, however, refuted these accusations and said, “It is routine work and is taking place everywhere. The work is going on in every government setup.” We also searched online to check if any similar repair or renovation work took place in any of Odisha's hospitals before the PM's visit, but found no credible news reports suggesting that. Thus, it is clear that months-old images from the Morbi civil hospital in Gujarat were shared in the context of the tragic Odisha train mishap.
