  • Fact Check: Driver manoeuvering his truck on a curvy road in India? NO, this is just a video game India Today found that this video is from a vehicle simulation video game called "Spintires: MudRunner". Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video is gameplay footage of an offroading simulation game called “Spintires: MudRunner”. A video making the rounds on social media allegedly shows a truck navigating through the curvy roads of India. In the video, the vehicle carrying what looks like a rocket first crosses a water body with the help of another armoured vehicle-launched bridge in front of it. Later, it manoeuvres through steep turns. Those sharing the video appreciated the skills of the driver navigating through tough terrain and also admired the infrastructural progress made by India. Archives of such posts can be found here and here. India Today found that this video is from a vehicle simulation video game called “Spintires: MudRunner”. AFWA PROBE A reverse search of keyframes from the viral video led us to a Facebook post from March 22, 2023. Here, the video in question was shared by a person named “Jim Natelo”. Along with the video, it was mentioned that the person was playing “Spintires: MudRunner”. We also found many other videos of similar trucks, jeeps, and even cars navigating similar tricky paths. These videos were all from “Spintires: Mudrunner”, an offroading simulation video game that puts players in the driving seat of vehicles who traverse difficult terrain. Jim Natelo is a New-York based gaming video creator who often posts footage of different video games. Apart from the advanced manoeuvres of the truck, Natelo has also shared videos of games like “Microsoft Flight Simulator” and “Far Cry: Primal”, among others. This is not the first time a digital simulation was peddled with misleading claims on social media platforms. Earlier, an aerial combat simulation was shared as the US Air Force taking down a Chinese “spy” balloon. Also, “Arma 3” footage has also become the fodder for fake news many times. Thus, it is more than clear that the video in question neither shows a dexterous driver nor the infrastructure of India. It shows a video game.
