New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video from a market, showing a woman in a burqa repeatedly slapping and beating a man for allegedly molesting her, has gone viral on social media. The video is being widely shared with a communal narrative, with users claiming the man involved is Hindu.
However, an investigation by Vishvas News has clarified that the incident, which occurred recently in Kanpur, has no communal angle. Both the woman and the man are Muslims. Police reports confirm that the man’s mental health is unstable, and he is currently undergoing treatment.
What is in the viral post?
Sharing the viral post, a Facebook user wrote, Translated from Hindi “Just because she was wearing a burqa, some people’s hateful, blind devotion (like that of Asaram’s followers) kicked in. Well, at least the woman was aware and gave the man the right punishment for his actions”

Investigation
Starting our investigation, we took out the key frames of the video and searched them using Google Lens. We found an article on ABP News‘ website. According to the report dated 26 February 2025, this incident occurred in Kanpur’s Becon Ganj, where the woman beat up the man who was molesting her in public.
As per the news report, the police has stated that the man has been taken in custody. Assistant Police Commissioner Abhishek Kumar stated that the arrested individual is named Adnan. Upon investigating his background and locating his home, it was discovered that Adnan is mentally ill. Legal action will be taken if the victim files a formal written complaint.
We also found a news report related to the viral video on Amar Ujala’s website published on 26 February 2025. The report stated “On Wednesday, in the Beconganj area, a woman beat up a young man in the middle of the market for molesting her. The young man kept trying to save himself, but the woman’s hands did not stop. The woman caught the young man’s collar, then slapped him 14 times in 50 seconds.”
We also found a post by an X user, who had shared the same video. Replying to this post, ”Kanpur City Police Commissionerate” has written, “The incident is dated 25.02.2025, cognizance was taken by the local police. The name of the person seen in the video is Adnan son of late Abdul Mabud resident of Bajaria police station, the accused’s family members stated that Adnan’s mental condition is not normal, and his treatment is going on. After getting the formal complaint from the victim, investigation and necessary action will be taken.”
For confirmation, we contacted our partner Dainik Jagran’s Kanpur output head Diwakar Mishra. He told us that there was no Hindu-Muslim angle in the incident, the viral claim is false.
Facebook user who shared the fake post is followed by five thousand people. According to the profile, he is a resident of Bareilly.
Conclusion: The viral video from Kanpur, showing a Muslim woman slapping a man, has no communal connection. Both the woman and the man are Muslims.
