  • Last Updated on April 18, 2024 by Neelam Singh Quick Take According to an article, Japan has banned the COVID-19 vaccinations. We analysed the claim and determined it to be false. The Claim In an article titled “Japan Bans Covid Shots over Soaring Sudden Deaths,” News Addicts asserts that the government of Japan was compelled to ban COVID-19 vaccinations due to a sharp rise in sudden deaths caused by the virus. On multiple social media platforms, we found assertions associated with COVID-19. These include claims that the COVID-19 vaccine promotes the ageing process, that these vaccines exhibit viral shedding, and even that the COVID-19 vaccines are poisonous. We carefully verified the accuracy of these claims through fact-checking. Fact Check Does the article’s information come from a trustworthy source? No. It should be made clear that News Addicts provided the material that sparked a conspiracy hypothesis regarding COVID-19 vaccinations in Japan. Because of this, the accuracy of this story needs to be confirmed. It should be mentioned that the article lacked the day and date of the decision. We looked for the news on other media outlets, but we were unable to locate any other source that had the same details. But our search did turn up a Twitter account stating that Japan had banned COVID-19 mRNA vaccinations. Please be advised that false information regarding vaccine hesitancy could circulate online and through social media. Likewise, several research studies that analysed COVID-19-related tweets that were posted on Twitter found that people’s behaviour and acceptance of the vaccination might be impacted by rumours and counter-rumours. Consequently, information on such a critical illness on social media platforms cannot be relied upon. Has the Japanese government released any information regarding the vaccination ban for COVID-19? No. Contrary to viral rumour, the Japanese government has not made a formal statement opposing COVID vaccinations. Rather, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare announced that the country will no longer be offering COVID-19 vaccinations for free. Japan’s official website offers online updates about COVID-19 vaccinations. This demonstrates the total number of doses of vaccinations administered up to this point. Furthermore, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided information regarding the significance of COVID-19 vaccination certificates. These certifications are necessary in order to enter Japan. Finally, the Japenese Red cross reports that those who have received vaccines are now qualified to donate blood. However, the Red Cross advises donors to wait 48 hours following an mRNA vaccine before donating blood. This could be explained by the notion that genetic material transfusions brought on by vaccinations might pose health risks. Thus, it can be concluded that Japan did not restrict COVID-19 vaccines. Are COVID-19 vaccinations causing a lot of unexpected deaths in Japan? It is important to note that research has connected COVID-19 vaccines to unanticipated deaths in Japan. The first COVID-19-related death reported by Japan and the unexpected death of a 14-year-old Japanese girl two days after receiving her third dose of the BNT1262b2 mRNA COVID-19 immunisations are the two most well-known examples. Even if these cases could raise concerns, it’s crucial to comprehend them, especially in Japan, where pathological autopsies are carried out to ascertain the actual cause of death. The effectiveness of a vaccination differs among individuals. Please be mindful that although vaccinations include certain risks, similar to those associated with any medication, these are outweighed by the benefits that they offer in terms of both disease prevention and transmission. How has Japan been coping with COVID? Are mRNA vaccinations useful in their fight against it? Japan has been battling with the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. These encompass both delayed vaccination programmes and inadequate public awareness. One major hurdle was the delay in the development of widespread immunity due to the initial delayed vaccination rollout and vaccine reluctance. As per a survey, Japan’s vaccine Confidence Index is among the lowest globally. Complicating matters is the prolonged and stringent regulatory COVID vaccine process in Japan. Their regulatory framework made them dependent on imported vaccinations. Consequently, there was a delay in the vaccination programme. However, Japan responded by stepping up its efforts to produce vaccines and increasing public trust to raise immunisation rates. A critical development in Japan’s vaccination strategy has been the widespread mRNA vaccination programme. Among the most important vaccinations were the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines. Japan has since taken a leading role in evaluating the real- world effectiveness of these mRNA vaccines. This has been achieved by quantifying their impact on many factors, such as personal protective health behaviours. Hence, the use of mRNA vaccines represents a major breakthrough in Japanese vaccine technology, as lipid nanoparticles serve as efficient vaccine carriers. Despite initial challenges, the use and efficacy of mRNA vaccines have proven critical in Japan’s fight against the pandemic. When was Japan’s domestic COVID-19 vaccination developed? Despite all of the hoaxes around the adverse effects of the COVID-19 vaccination, the World Health Organisation is still emphasising how important these vaccinations are for preventing viral infections. In line with this need of the hour in combating the pandemic, Japan developed its first domestic COVID-19 vaccine in 2023. The Japanese vaccination programme initiated under the Immunisation Act on February 17, 2021, using vaccines developed by international pharmaceutical manufacturers. A Japanese panel endorsed this vaccine in August 2023. Finally, the vaccine was officially approved by Japanese authorities in November 2023. Thus, this significant achievement illustrates Japan’s efforts to strengthen their healthcare system in response to the persistent challenges brought on by the COVID-19 epidemic.
