A video of Tahir Hussain campaigning from the Mustafabad assembly seat in New Delhi is being shared as his post-election rally. In reality, Tahir Hussain returned to jail after completing his campaigning on February 3, 2025. New Delhi (Vishvas News). After the Delhi Assembly election results, a video clip went viral on social media, claiming that the AIMIM candidate from the Mustafabad assembly constituency, Tahir Hussain, led a procession despite losing the election.
Vishvas News, in its investigation, found this claim to be misleading. The viral video is from a pre-election rally, when the Supreme Court had granted custody parole to Hussain for his election campaign from January 29 to February 3, 2025. After the parole period ended, Hussain returned to jail.
Tahir Hussain contested from the Mustafabad assembly seat, Delhi on AIMIM ticket. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Mohan Singh Bisht won this seat and Hussain secured third place with approximately 33000 votes.
What is viral?
Social media user ‘Vineet Hindu i’ shared the viral video clip with the caption,
“The people of Mustafabad have given 30 thousand votes to Tahir Hussain, accused of Delhi riots, and he is taking out a procession even after losing.
He is able to demonstrate his power so that the whole of India can see it.
Where I should have been hanged, thanks to the brokers of the Collegium (Supreme Courts), I am still safe and will continue to flout the law!”
Many other users across different social media platforms have also shared this video clip with similar and identical claims.
Investigation
To find out the source of the viral video, we did a reverse image search on its keyframes and found this video posted on several social media handles, with a timestamp indicating it was from February 6, 2025.
We found this video uploaded on a YouTube channel named ‘SAHILMIRZA’ on February 6, 2025, and was related to the campaign for the Delhi Assembly elections.
Several other users have shared this video in the same context.
The Instagram handle ‘hajitahirhussainaimim’ (claiming to be Haji Tahir Hussain) has also shared several videos with similar frames to the viral video.
A similar video shared on February 3, 2025 claimed that it was Tahir Hussain’s video before he returned to jail after the campaigning.
It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court granted six days of conditional custody parole to former Aam Aadmi Party councillor and Delhi riots accused Tahir Hussain for election campaigning. According to the Supreme Court’s order, Hussain was allowed to campaign during the day (for 12 hours) from January 29 to February 3, but was required to return to jail every night.
Voting for 70 seats of Delhi Assembly was held on February 5, 2025 and the election campaign officially concluded on the evening of February 3, 2025. The election results were declared on February 8, 2025 according to which BJP will form the government in Delhi with a two-thirds majority.
BJP secured 48 seats in Delhi, while the former ruling party Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered a significant defeat in this election, winning only 22 seats.
At the same time, BJP candidate Mohan Singh Bisht won from the Mustafabad seat, with AAP candidate Adil Ahmed Khan securing the second position. AIMIM candidate Tahir Hussain finished third, securing around 33000 votes.
To verify this, we contacted Mohammad Shujauddin, Chief Reporter at Dainik Jagran, who confirmed that this video is from the pre-election campaign. He further stated that Tahir Hussain is currently in jail, as his custody parole for election campaigning ended on February 3, 2025.
The profile of the user who shared the viral post appears to be inspired by a particular ideology.
Conclusion: A video of Tahir Hussain campaigning from the Mustafabad assembly seat in New Delhi is being shared as his post-election rally. In reality, Tahir Hussain returned to jail after completing his campaigning on February 3, 2025.
