New Delhi (Vishvas News). The Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest spiritual gatherings in the world, is currently taking place in Prayagraj. The gathering draws millions of pilgrims, saints, and spiritual seekers from around the globe. Recently, a video has gone viral on social media, showing a bus fallen into a drain and surrounded by a crowd. The video was shared with claims that the bus was en route to Maha Kumbh and fell into the drain and 10 people lost their lives in the accident.
Vishvas News’ investigation found the claim to be misleading. The video is not from Prayagraj Maha Kumbh, but from Pakistan.
What is viral?
Facebook user ‘Pram Chopra’ shared the viral video (archive link) claiming it to be from Maha Kumbh Prayagraj with the caption: “Bus going to Maha Kumbh fell into a drain.”
Investigation
To find the original source of the viral video, we conducted a reverse image search and found this video uploaded on a YouTube channel named ‘Dr Altaf Baloch’ on Nov 3, 2024, with the caption “Passenger bus falls into the drain while returning from Raiwind Tablighi Jamaat”
We also found this video uploaded on a Facebook page named ‘Mission Saleem Qadri 92’ on November 4, 2024, with the caption: “Raiwind: A bus falls into a dirty drain while returning from a gathering.”
Upon searching with keywords, we found several news reports covering the accident. On the YouTube channel of the Pakistani news channel ‘Hum News’, with the caption: “Latest news from Tablighi Ijtema – Bus falls into drain in Lahore.”
The viral footage can also be seen in the news uploaded on the YouTube channel of the Pakistani channel ‘Aaj TV Official’ regarding this accident on November 3, 2024. This report also confirmed that the incident happened in Pakistan.
We reached out to Mohammad Kamran, a reporter for the Pakistani news channel ‘News 24 HD’, regarding this incident. He confirmed, “The video is from November 3, 2024, when the bus, carrying 70 people, was travelling to Kot Addu city after the annual Tablighi Ijtema in Raiwind. During the journey, the bus wheel slipped, causing the bus to fall into a drain. Around 30 people were injured, but fortunately, no one lost their life in the accident.”
Following this, we conducted a keyword search to check if any bus going to Prayagraj had been involved in a similar accident. We came to know that recently a bus returning from Maha Kumbh met with an accident on the Nashik-Gujarat highway, where seven people lost their lives However, the viral video is not related to that incident.
Facebook user Pram Chopra, who shared the viral video, has over 8000 followers on Facebook.
Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that this video is from Pakistan, where a bus fell into a drain while returning from Raiwind Tablighi Ijtema, and is not related to Mahakumbh in Prayagraj.
