| - Reilly Smith scored 7:13 into overtime to give the Vegas Golden Knights a 4-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks and a 2-0 lead in their NHL Western Conference playoff series on Thursday. The top-seeded Knights needed Smith's first career overtime goal in the Stanley Cup playoffs to extend their lead over eighth-seeded Chicago in the best-of-seven Western Conference series being played in the NHL's quarantine hub in Edmonton. "(Nick) Cousins did a great job of creating time," said Smith, who credited linemate Paul Stastny with a "great" pass. "I was fortunate enough it took a great bounce off my stick," he added. Stastny, Tomas Nosek and Mark Stone also scored, Jonathan Marchessault had two assists, and goaltender Robin Lehner made 22 saves for Vegas. Kirby Dach, Dominik Kubalik and Dylan Strome scored, and Patrick Kane had three assists for Chicago. Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford made 35 saves -- including 16 in the third period to help force overtime. Stastny gave Vegas a 1-0 lead at 10:44 of the first period. Nosek made it 2-0 at 15:35. Dach scored on a backhand at the right post at 3:17 of the second period to pull the Blackhawks within 2-1 and Kubalik made it 2-2 with a power-play goal at 12:07 of the second period. Stone shot a loose puck into the net that deflected off his chest at the left post at 17:20 of the second to give Vegas a 3-2 lead. But Strome answered with a shot at the left post after a pass from Kane with 14 seconds left in the second. Vegas will look to take a stranglehold on the series in game three on Saturday, but Chicago coach Jeremy Colliton said he thought the Blackhawks could rally. "We're not out of it," Colliton said. "We're going to regroup and come back raring to go for game three." Elsewhere in the West, Jamie Oleksiak's goal in the final minute of the third period lifted the Dallas Stars to a 5-4 victory over Calgary Flames that leveled their series at one game apiece. Two Eastern Conference series were knotted at 1-1 after the Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes posted wins in Toronto. Alexander Wennberg scored a spectacular goal at 11:27 of the third period to cap the Blue Jackets' scoring in a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Wennberg carried the puck down the right side and played it between his legs as he moved outside before slicing toward the net to shoot. "It felt like a good time to pull that off, so it worked out," Wennberg said. The Hurricanes beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 on Dougie Hamilton's game-winning goal at 8:30 of the third period. James Reimer made 33 saves, and Andrei Svechnikov had a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes. bb/gle
