| - In early December last year, a few dozen residents in the city of Wuhan in central China developed pneumonia-like symptoms. They did not know it then, but what they had would trigger a global pandemic. A year on, the exact origins of the new coronavirus are still unknown, but it is clear the virus will play a significant part in the history of the 21st century. Covid-19 has already killed 1.4 million people, confined billions across the planet to their homes and created global economic chaos. AFP has produced a series of stories on the crisis, accompanied by graphics, 100 photos and special video reports, being rolled out in several instalments. They include reports from Wuhan as well as one of Europe's most affected towns, Tomelloso in central Spain.
