"As no external provider was able to meet the criteria in full, the club will assume responsibility for production itself in future." Playing under its famous skull-and-crossbones logo, the Hamburg-based club has a reputation for taking a left-wing stance against racism, sexism, fascism and homophobia. In the past, St Pauli has produced it's own honey to raise awareness of the declining bee population. The club's head of sales Bernd von Geldern says the aim is "sustainability and fair working conditions" with the playing shirts and kit due to be ready next May. "In launching our own teamsport collection, we remain steadfastly on our path of independence," added club president Oke Goettlich. Last Friday, St. Pauli announced their agreement with US equipment suppliers Under Armour will discontinue when the current season ends in May. ryj/dmc
