The "fossil-free hydrocarbon-based fuel with a blend of synthetic and bio-fuel components will be the first of its kind used in an FIA world championship series which includes Formula One. "By introducing sustainable fuel along with the hybrid technology...we are taking a significant step towards the new era of the FIA World Rally Championship in 2022," said FIA president Jean Todt. The three official teams currently competing in WRC - Hyundai, M-Sport (Ford) and Toyota - have extended their contracts until 2024 to cover the switch to hybrid cars.
