US lawmakers and President Donald Trump are "very close" to reaching a stimulus agreement to fight the coronavirus outbreak that's sent markets plunging and disrupted businesses, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Friday. The economic slowdown from the virus has sent Wall Street indices into a bear market and led major sporting leagues to cancel or postpone their seasons, but Mnuchin on CNBC called the slowdown a "short-term issue." He said Trump is committed to a "major stimulus package," but did not provide specifics. "There's no question there's a short-term economic issue, but we will get through this." cs/hs
