The leader of Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party announced on Thursday he will resign after just three weeks, as the pro-UK party entered meltdown just hours after installing a new first minister in office. "I have asked the party chairman to commence an electoral process within the party to allow for a new leader of the Democratic Unionist Party to be elected," Edwin Poots said in a statement. Earlier on Thursday Poots successfully nominated regional lawmaker Paul Givan as the new first minister of Northern Ireland, after his predecessor Arlene Foster was ousted in a coup over Brexit. jts/kjl
