Malawi's electoral commission on Friday filed papers seeking to suspend the enforcement of a landmark court order that annulled last year's re-election of President Peter Mutharika, a court official said. "I can confirm that the MEC (Malawi Electoral Commission) has filed an appeal for a stay order," spokeswoman for the judiciary Agnes Patemba, told AFP. The southern African nation made history on Monday when the top court ruled in favour of an opposition bid to cancel last May's presidential election because of fraud allegations. str-sn/pma
