| - The world marks Earth Day on April 22, the day US President Joe Biden has chosen to open a two-day virtual climate summit. Highlighting Washington's return to the front lines of the fight against man-made climate change, it will be the first big event on the environment of his presidency. The summit comes ahead of two major events later in the year. In September, the International Union for Conservation of Nature is due to hold its twice-delayed summit aimed at forging an international plan to reverse catastrophic species loss. And in November, the UN climate summit, COP26, will be held in the Scottish city of Glasgow -- the hour of truth in revealing nations' carbon cutting pledges. Ahead of next week's talks, AFP -- a partner in the Covering Climate Now coalition that seeks to increase climate-linked coverage -- is rolling out a series of stories, photos and videos. Over the coming days, we will look at some of the already visible consequences of climate change, citizens' engagement on the issue as well as the situation in the United States.
