Prescott was running the ball with 6:33 left to play in the third quarter when he was pulled down by Giants cornerback Logan Ryan, his leg getting twisted underneath him. Players and coaches gathered around him, including former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett who is now on the Giants staff. Prescott was in tears as he was carted off the field, his ankle and foot already encased in a pressure cast. The Cowboys announced after the game that Prescott would undergo surgery for a compound right ankle fracture and dislocation. Andy Dalton took over as the Cowboys' quarterback and finished off a scoring drive that ended with a touchdown from running back Ezekiel Elliott that gave Dallas 31-23 lead. "It sucks. It sucks," Elliott said. "I know we won. But it sucks to lose Dak, our leader." The Cowboys, who improved to 1-4, had some impressive numbers by Prescott with more yardage than any passer in NFL history over a four-game span at 1,690. Cowboys rookie receiver CeeDee Lamb said the team will stay strong until his return. "I appreciate everything he's done for me," Lamb said. "I can't thank him enough. I told him we're going to hold it down until we get to see him on the field with us again." Prescott, 27, is the Cowboys' "franchise" player after he and the team were unable to agree to terms on a long-term contract during the off-season. js/bb
